Purpose:

There have been several threads on StrataList for the past couple months debating the Strata Studio Pro rendering times of different processors & hardware setups. I've been considering purchasing some sort of hardware upgrade soon, so I decided to set out to test these differences quantitatively. I also plan to include rendering results from Strata Studio Pro 2.5 running on the Windows platform, so we can compare speeds of PowerPC and Intel processors.

Instructions: (if you want to participate)

1. Download one of the scene files below.

If you have a Mac, Click here to Download the SSP 2.1 scene file.

If you are using a PC, Click here to Download a zipped PC version of the SSP 2.5 scene file.

2. Open the scene in Strata Studio Pro, and render the Camera-1 Window. Make sure you are rendering the Camera-1 window, and not the main modeling window.

Your final rendering should look like this:

if it doesn't, you did something wrong.

A few notes about settings:

Leave the rendering preview option on, make sure nothing is running in the background, leave Virtual Memory off, turn AppleTalk off, use minimal extensions, avoid moving the mouse too much while rendering, jostling the computer unnecessarily, abnormal amounts of ionizing radiation, rendering during heavy solar flare activity, rendering near a microwave, running with scissors, going swimming less than 20 minutes after eating, etc.

Also, make sure you are using the below default settings:

 

3. Record the rendering time. (this can be found in the upper left corner of the final snapshot window)

4. Fill out the form below and click on the submit button. I will post results when I have time. Duplicate hardware results will be averaged, falsified or incorrect results will be thrown out.
